Once our mentor-coaches are approved to begin training, they start our three-phase Positive Presence Mentor Certification Program – a proprietary 60-day intensive training.
Phase One: All approved mentor-coaches start with a one-on-one, hands-on experience where they receive an in-depth understanding of our S.E.L.F. Philosophy, our coaching P.I.L.L.A.R.S., our proprietary ‘Perspective Coaching Process’, and a clear understanding of how to support their mentees through encouragement, understanding, and openness.
Phase Two: Each future mentor-coach is partnered with a scholarship recipient from our Foundation to gain valuable field experience. Over the next 30 days, (phase 2 of their certification) they are required to put in a minimum of 5 hours of online training, which includes watching client-approved session recordings. Additionally, they must attend 5 one-hour coaching sessions conducted by current mentor-coaches for additional field training.
Phase 3: This training section requires earning a 100% score on our certification exam. This 2-3 hour exam includes 50 what-if scenarios presented to each mentor-coach by a corporate trainer. Each scenario has been extracted from real-world coaching situations. The intention of this exam is to ensure that our mentor-coaches can maintain integrity with our core-coaching principles, utilize our ‘Prospective Coaching Process’, and think on their feet to positively and proactively support each student in various scenarios.
Our training program is intentionally rigorous and requires high levels of self-discipline from future mentor-coaches. The process was designed to impart the importance of the lives we impact and we take every precaution necessary to make sure our mentor-coaches are ready (mentally, physically, and spiritually) to inspire and support their mentees. The coaches that make it past these three phases become Positive Presence certified mentor-coaches and receive their first mentee.
